Ballroom, Rhythm & Swing Dance Instructor

Amy Tranchida brings 45 years of experience, a diverse dance background, and a great sense of humor to her classes. She has been classically trained for 16 years in ballet, tap, and jazz dance.  She was a member of the Romeo Civic Ballet Company for 6 years and Amy has also studied and instructed African Dance at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona.

Currently, Amy teaches nineteen Ballroom and Rhythm dance styles -- Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Bachata, Samba, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Night Club Two-Step, Polka, Country Two-Step, and Hustle -- and also offers Latin Dance Workout classes.

Beyond her group and private lessons, she often works with wedding couples and wedding parties, guest teaches at dance intensives, holds workshops at private or corporate events, and is hired for choreography for numerous performance projects.

As a dancer and dance instructor, Amy shares her passion and respect for the art form.  She helps students to discover the joy of movement and the fun of building new skills.  Her teaching method is supportive, celebratory, and thorough. She offers the tips and techniques to ensure student progress and build life long learning.

Amy helps students discover that along with being fun, dance offers the opportunity to meet new people, and it incorporates incredible music.  Dance promotes brain health, builds better balance, increases one's stamina, improves one's coordination, encourages healthy goal setting, and stimulates the mind as well as the body.

Yoga Instructor

Amy Tranchida has studied and taught yoga for the past 35 years.  Amy's classes foster a spirit of gentleness, self-care, and the acceptance of, and gratitude for, one's body.  Her teaching helps students focus on proper alignment, a sense of self-discovery, and the nourishing power of their breath.

She instructs the following yoga styles -- Hatha, Slow Flow, Vinyasa, Yin, Power, and Restorative Yoga, as well as Yoga for Healthy Backs, and Yoga for Dancers.  Each class includes both gentle and invigorating flowing sequences -- perfect for the beginner or the lifelong student.

Amy conveys to her students that over time, yoga increases flexibility, bolsters mental and physical stamina, detoxifies the body and mind, and reminds one to thrive in the present moment. Sustained yoga practice incorporates more relaxation into one's life and improves one's overall health.

English, Literature & Creative Writing Instructor

Amy Tranchida holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goddard College, 2009, and a BA in Creative Writing and Literature with a minor in Performing Arts from Prescott College, 1999. She teaches English, Literature, and Argument and Research courses at Macomb Community College.

As a writer and English teacher, she helps students develop their communication skills, engage with their critical thinking skills, expand and express their intellectual voice, and overall, connect the relevance of their learning to their lives beyond the classroom.

She encourages students to draw upon life experiences and personal expertise, urges them to find and write about topics that they are passionate about, and motivates them to dig deeper with their investigations to grapple with their critical thinking, consider their audience, and learn how to effectively support their arguments.

Amy emphasizes that every person's voice and unique perspective matters, and that ideas have impact in the world. Studying communication through writing and literature offers a conduit to practice one's creativity, compassion, and crucial connection skills.
